Firmware Systems Design Engineer

Advanced Micro Devices, IncAustin, TX

About The Position

We are looking for a dynamic, energetic Firmware Design Engineer to join our growing team. As a key contributor to the success of AMD’s products, you will be part of a leading team to drive and improve AMD’s abilities to deliver the highest quality, industry-leading technologies to market. The Firmware Design Engineering team fosters and encourages continuous technical innovation to showcase successes as well as facilitate continuous career development.

Requirements

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science
  • This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Programming/scripting skills (e.g., C/C++, Perl, Ruby, Python).
  • Debug techniques and methodologies
  • Experience with common lab equipment, including protocol/logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Experience with board/platform-level debug, including delivery, sequencing, analysis, and optimization
  • Knowledge of system architecture, technical debug, and validation strategies

Responsibilities

  • Driving technical innovation to improve AMD’s capabilities across product development and validation, including tool and script development, technical and procedural methodology enhancement, and various internal and cross-functional initiatives
  • Develop scalable firmware, tools, and automation frameworks (Python, C/C++) to increase validation coverage, reduce manual test effort, and improve product quality. Emphasize clean, maintainable code, reusable test libraries, and measurable productivity gains.
  • Execute systematic validation and deep-dive debugging across hardware, silicon, and firmware to isolate and resolve issues during bring-up and production. Apply logic analyzers, JTAG, trace tools, and methodical RCA to close failure loops and reduce field escapes.
  • Design and validate board/platform-level interactions (power delivery, sequencing, clocks, interfaces) to ensure stable bring-up and optimal performance. Provide cross-functional support for hardware/firmware trade-offs, issue triage, and feature enablement.
  • Debugging issues found during the SOC (System on a Chip) programs bring-up, validation, and production phases
  • Working with multiple teams and tracking test execution to make sure all features are validated and optimized on time
  • Engaging in other software/hardware modeling frameworks and leading collaborative approaches with multiple teams

Benefits
