About The Position

Firmware Project Manager Description - HP's Specialty Printing and Technology Solutions business unit is chartered to leverage HP's printing technology assets to OEM's in a wide array of markets including Product Identification, Labels, Transactions, Postage, Mail Addressing, and Life Sciences markets. We repurpose these assets to address needs in vertical markets where HP's technology, performance, and reliability can bring value. The SPTS Engineering Organization is chartered to extend these assets with high-ROI solutions that fit the needs of these markets through specialty inks, printheads, enablers and full imaging solutions. Tremendous opportunities exist to leverage HP print technologies and apply them to create new applications in the Life Sciences. The SPTS Life Science Dispense business is one new Life Science business that HP has already launched. We develop and sell dispensing products that leverage HP’s world-class inkjet printing technology. Job Summary This role is responsible for leading a team of software firmware engineers in designing, developing, and maintaining firmware solutions that drive the functionality and performance of hardware devices and embedded systems. The role works closely with hardware engineers, software developers, project managers, and other stakeholders to deliver robust and reliable firmware products. The role involves managing the entire firmware development lifecycle, from design and coding to testing and deployment.

Requirements

  • Four-year or Graduate Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.
  • Typically has 7-10 years of job-related experience or 5-7 years of management experience, preferably in firmware development, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the preparation and creation of instructional technical manuscripts for firmware operation.
  • Manages resources to complete programming projects, and designs detailed plans to ensure firmware is functioning properly.
  • Leads multiple project teams of other software firmware engineers and internal and outsourced development partners responsible for all stages of design and development for complex products and platforms, including solution design, analysis, coding, testing, and integration.
  • Manages and expands relationships with internal and outsourced development partners on firmware design and development.
  • Reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with systems design and development guidelines and standards; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality and mitigate failure risk.
  • Manages project meetings, schedules, milestones and delivery, including managing vendors and manufacturing partners to achieve teams goals.
  • Fosters collaboration between software firmware engineers, hardware engineers, software developers, and other stakeholders to achieve seamless integration of firmware with hardware and software components.
  • Serves as an expert on all firmware related topics and acts as overall firmware leadership to provide perspective to cross-organization projects, programs, and activities.
  • Stays updated with industry trends and emerging technologies related to firmware development, ensuring the team remains innovative and competitive.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to less-experienced staff members.
