About The Position

The Firmware Engineering Lead will be responsible for the end‑to‑end development of machine control firmware solutions, collaborating with electrical and mechanical engineers to design and implement control algorithms. This role will lead teams of firmware engineers through all project phases, support bid and proposal efforts through labor and material cost estimation, and work with test engineers to verify firmware in live mail‑processing environments. As part of a high‑performing, multi‑site team, the role will apply expertise in embedded firmware development to deliver reliable control applications, effectively communicate technical issues to stakeholders, and support program execution across multiple applications.

Requirements

  • Experience leading a team of firmware engineers through a project.
  • Experience bidding time and materials for firmware projects.
  • Experience working with EE hardware engineers to develop and implement control applications.
  • Experience with C/C++.
  • Experience with Altera NIOS II software build tools for Eclipse.
  • Experience with MicroChip dsPIC processors and MPLAB X IDE build tools.
  • Familiarity with source control software packages such as DevOps, GitHub, etc.
  • Willing to travel (up to 25%).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of firmware development experience creating algorithms, troubleshooting issues, and finding solutions for control systems.
  • Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

  • Work with electrical and mechanical engineers to develop control algorithms for machine control.
  • Lead teams of firmware engineers through all stages of a project.
  • Work with internal bid and proposal teams to assist them in creating labor hours and material costs for customer projects.
  • Work with test engineers to assist them with verification of the firmware in the live environment of mail processing.
  • Be part of a high-performing, multi-site, and multi-program team.
  • Be responsible for all phases of developing firmware for various applications.
  • Work in a collaborative and team-based environment.
