About The Position

Empower AI is seeking a Firewall/Security Engineer for an exciting opportunity at the Department of State. This role is responsible for the design, implementation, and evolution of network and security systems supporting the global network infrastructure for the customer. The engineer will stay informed of new technical developments and security trends, recommend network security configurations and solutions to management, and research, evaluate, and document new products, configurations, and tools. Continuous planning for the expansion of secured networks is also a key aspect of this role. The engineer will interact with vendors to investigate new equipment and services, serve as a troubleshooter for complex network problems (especially those related to firewalls) on Tier 2 and incident tickets, and act as a high-level escalation point for network and security administrators and technicians. Additionally, the role involves performing complex engineering, security design, implementation, and maintenance tasks on Unified Communications Systems, researching, evaluating, and approving hardware and software solutions, developing and executing complex implementation plans for network/system upgrades, and coordinating requirements from the CISO. The engineer will also design and document new network security elements and provide guidance to junior staff members.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience
  • Bachelor's in IT or related field
  • Palo Alto PCNSE or F5 CTS Certification
  • Secret Security Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Design, implementation, and evolution of network and security systems supporting the global network infrastructure.
  • Stay informed of new technical developments and security trends in the industry.
  • Make recommendations to management on desirable network security configurations and solutions and opportunities.
  • Research, evaluate, and document new products, configurations, and tools.
  • Continuously plan for the expansion of secured networks.
  • Regularly interact with vendors for the purposes of investigating new equipment and services.
  • Serve as a troubleshooter on complex network problems especially those impacted by or impacting the firewall for on all Tier 2 and incident tickets of all priorities.
  • Act as a high-level escalation point for network and security administrators and technicians.
  • Perform complex engineering, security design, implementation and maintenance tasks on Unified Communications Systems.
  • Research, evaluate, and approve hardware and software solutions and configurations for complex problems and solutions.
  • Develop, review, and execute complex implementation plans for network/system upgrades.
  • Coordinate requirements from the CISO.
  • Design and document new network security elements.
  • Provide guidance to junior staff members.
