About The Position

GDIT has an immediate career opportunity for a Fires Systems Engineer to support our Worldwide Field Support contract in Ottawa, Canada. This role involves installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining AFATDS operating systems, application software, and system management tools. The engineer will also initialize, configure, and troubleshoot software interfaces, manage and monitor installed systems, networks, and infrastructure for optimal performance, and ensure high availability, reliability, and resilience of system and network infrastructure. Responsibilities include monitoring and evaluating application performance, identifying bottlenecks, proposing solutions, and collaborating with developers. The role also requires maintaining system security, backup procedures, and redundancy strategies, participating in the design and enhancement of information and operational support systems, preparing technical and operational reports, providing over-the-shoulder training and mentorship to artillery operators, and assisting Canadian Army Artillery units in planning and executing simulated and live-fire exercises. The engineer will apply advanced knowledge of AFATDS hardware, components, and operational procedures, and assist the Joint Fires Modernization Project Management Office with system acceptance, technical systems testing, management of interdependent systems interfaces, and on-site and remote support of field units implementing AFATDS.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • CompTIA Security+ CE certification.
  • Valid U.S. Passport with at least 2 years remaining.
  • Windows 10 (or later) system administration.
  • Windows Server 2012 (or later) administration.
  • Basic networking fundamentals.
  • VMware vSphere Version 6.5.
  • Expert-level knowledge of AFATDS operations, hardware, and software components.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior military experience is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with the following systems: Joint Automated Deep Operations Coordination System (JADOCS), Joint Targeting Integrated Command and Coordination Suite (JTIC2S), Joint Targeting Toolbox (JTT), Joint Targeting Toolbox Capability Package (JTT-CP), Modernized Integrated Database (MIDB), Machine-Assisted Analytic Rapid-Repository System (MARS), Global Command and Control System–Joint (GCCS-J).

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, test, and maintain AFATDS operating systems, application software, and system management tools.

  • Prepare weekly and bi-weekly technical and operational reports.
  • Provide over-the-shoulder training and mentorship to artillery operators.
  • Assist Canadian Army Artillery units in planning and executing simulated and live-fire unit/formation-level exercises.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of AFATDS hardware, components, and operational procedures.
  • Assist the Joint Fires Modernization Project Management Office with system acceptance, technical systems testing, management of interdependent systems interfaces of in-service and future systems, and on-site and remote support of field units implementing AFATDS.
