About The Position

Under general supervision, responds to emergency calls for service, including fire, rescue and emergency medical services; participates in fire code enforcement, public education and fire station and equipment maintenance activities. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, responding to emergency and non-emergency incidents; providing rescue and fire suppression; performing emergency medical and first aid services; operating fire apparatus to respond to emergency service calls; preparing activity reports; conducting vehicle and equipment checks; maintaining the assigned fire station; performing general building and grounds maintenance as necessary; serving as an acting Fire Engineer as necessary; conducting station tours for the public, school and community demonstrations and programs; and participating in required training sessions. Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent; AND graduation from an accredited fire academy; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
TCFP Intermediate Fire certification.
Intermediate EMT certification.
Possession of a valid Class B Texas Driver’s License.
Knowledge of City organization, operations, policies, and procedures.
Knowledge of modern municipal fire administration and emergency service principles, practices and techniques.
Knowledge of modern firefighting methods and techniques.
Knowledge of modern fire prevention and fire control practices.
Knowledge of water rescue methods and techniques.
Knowledge of methods, techniques and equipment for emergency medical services.
Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures.
Knowledge of Texas Fire Commission mandates.
Knowledge of National fire standards.
Knowledge of Texas local government codes.
Knowledge of business and personal computers, and spreadsheet software applications.
Skill in handling situations requiring diplomacy, fairness, firmness and sound judgment.
Skill in operating and maintaining various fire apparatus and equipment.
Skill in using hand tools.
Skill in understanding and applying City policies and procedures, and applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
Skill in explaining City policies and procedures.
Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with all levels within the City.
Skill in communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities
