About The Position

Under general supervision, responds to emergency calls for service, including fire, rescue and emergency medical services; participates in fire code enforcement, public education and fire station and equipment maintenance activities. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, responding to emergency and non-emergency incidents; providing rescue and fire suppression; performing emergency medical and first aid services; operating fire apparatus to respond to emergency service calls; preparing activity reports; conducting vehicle and equipment checks; maintaining the assigned fire station; performing general building and grounds maintenance as necessary; serving as an acting Fire Engineer as necessary; conducting station tours for the public, school and community demonstrations and programs; and participating in required training sessions. Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent; AND graduation from an accredited fire academy; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • TCFP Intermediate Fire certification.
  • Intermediate EMT certification.
  • Possession of a valid Class B Texas Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of City organization, operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of modern municipal fire administration and emergency service principles, practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of modern firefighting methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of modern fire prevention and fire control practices.
  • Knowledge of water rescue methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of methods, techniques and equipment for emergency medical services.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Texas Fire Commission mandates.
  • Knowledge of National fire standards.
  • Knowledge of Texas local government codes.
  • Knowledge of business and personal computers, and spreadsheet software applications.
  • Skill in handling situations requiring diplomacy, fairness, firmness and sound judgment.
  • Skill in operating and maintaining various fire apparatus and equipment.
  • Skill in using hand tools.
  • Skill in understanding and applying City policies and procedures, and applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Skill in explaining City policies and procedures.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with all levels within the City.
  • Skill in communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities
