About The Position

As a Paramedic at Paramedic Services of Illinois, you will be an integral part of our team, responding to emergency calls and providing essential medical care to patients in need. This role also involves firefighting duties, including responding to fire alarms, operating fire equipment, and performing search and rescue operations. The position requires a commitment to professionalism, teamwork, and providing high-quality emergency medical and fire services to the community.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Current/Valid Illinois Driver’s License of proper classification
  • Successful completion of a Paramedic program and maintain a current/valid Illinois Department of Public Health License
  • Capable of completing continuing education and testing requirements in the assigned system
  • State of Illinois Firefighter Certifications
  • Successful completion of a professional and criminal background check
  • Successfully pass pre-employment testing including a Fit for Duty Physical, Drug Screening, Agility and Lifting Evaluation

Responsibilities

  • Responding promptly to emergency calls and assessing the medical needs of patients.
  • Administering appropriate medical treatment and interventions according to established protocols and guidelines.
  • Safely lifting, transferring, and maneuvering patients in and out of ambulances, facilities, residences, and other locations.
  • Communicating effectively with patients, families, healthcare professionals, and other emergency responders.
  • Completing and maintaining accurate records and documentation related to transport, equipment, supplies, incidents, and other operational documentation.
  • Demonstrating compliance with continuing education and licensure requirements.
  • Maintaining a clean and complete uniform, personal hygiene, and a professional demeanor.
  • Inspecting and reporting damage, deficiencies, or safety issues with vehicles, equipment, and supplies; assisting with maintenance.
  • Participating in public education, public relations, public health safety programs, EMS training, fire training, fire prevention activities, fire suppression, rescue, extrication, hazardous material situations, demonstrations, and instructing.
  • Responding to fire alarms with assigned company.
  • Laying and connecting hose; maintaining pumping apparatus; holding nozzles and directing water streams.
  • Raising and climbing ladders; ventilating burning structures; entering buildings to evacuate occupants.
  • Operating all types of fire operation and rescue equipment including portable fire extinguishers, pike poles, hand lines, smoke ejectors, salvage covers, forcible entry tools, aerial ladder equipment, and emergency medical equipment.
  • Preserving evidence at fire scenes.
  • Performing search and rescue of individuals in hazardous environments including collapsed buildings, auto accidents, hazardous material spills, and confined spaces.
  • Attending special instruction in firefighting and emergency medical techniques.
  • Performing drills with other engine company staff.
  • Becoming familiar with city layout, established response routes, and hydrant systems.
  • Preparing and maintaining a variety of firefighting preplan drawings and schematics.
  • Assisting in the training of fire department personnel in emergency medical techniques and medical field activities.
  • Maintaining inventory of drugs and controlled substances.
