About The Position

The City of Gresham is seeking applications for the positions of Firefighter/EMT Basic and Firefighter/Paramedic. This role offers an exciting opportunity to serve the public in Gresham, Oregon, and surrounding areas. As a Firefighter, you will respond to emergency calls for fire suppression and emergency medical services. An eligibility list will be created for anticipated hiring and recruit academies starting March 2027, with future vacancies potentially filled from this list. Gresham Fire Department is known for its high call volume, with each apparatus providing Advanced Life Support (ALS) and staffed by at least one certified Firefighter Paramedic as part of the minimum three-person engine crews. Requirements

Minimum of 18 years of age at time of hire.
High School diploma or G.E.D.
Valid driver's license.
Emergency Medical Technician: Basic, Intermediate or Paramedic Certification.
Valid CPAT certification dated between September 18, 2025, through November 1, 2026.
Applicant is responsible for verifying any out-of-state or DOD certification reciprocity with the State of Oregon.
Must complete a City of Gresham online application and supplemental questions by November 1, 2026.
Must complete the Fire Team test with NTN (www.NationalTestingNetwork.com) by November 1, 2026, with a minimum passing score of 70% overall average.
Must complete a Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) with NTN by November 1, 2026.
Must pass an in-person panel interview (minimum average score of 70%).
Must pass a background investigation.
Must pass an in-person executive interview.
Must pass an interview with the Gresham Fire Chief.
Conditional Offer of Employment contingent upon a clear drug screen, physical exam, detailed background check, and psychological evaluation.
Must attend the City of Gresham Fire Academy starting March 1, 2027.

Nice To Haves

College coursework in fire science preferred.
Preference may be given to candidates with Paramedic Certification and/or applied career experience.

Responsibilities

Respond to emergency calls related to fire suppression and emergency medical services.
Provide fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical assistance to the public.
May include fire prevention inspections.
Perform general maintenance on fire apparatus, equipment, and facilities.
