About The Position

The City of Saratoga Springs is seeking a full-time Firefighter/AEMT or Paramedic for its Fire Department. This role operates on a 48/96 shift schedule and includes additional compensation for hours exceeding FLSA limits and paid holidays. The primary responsibilities involve responding to various emergencies including fire alarms, medical incidents, hazardous materials, urban rescue, and wildland interface situations to protect life and property. The position also entails participating in fire prevention and training activities, and maintaining the fire station and equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • For Firefighter AEMT: Must have satisfactorily completed a State of Utah recognized Firefighter I & II Academy OR Equivalent as determined by the Fire Chief.
  • For Firefighter AEMT: Taken and successfully completed a State of Utah Board of Emergency Medicine recognized; AEMT National Registry Course.
  • For Firefighter Paramedic: Graduation from High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • For Firefighter Paramedic: Satisfactorily completed a State of Utah recognized Firefighter I & II Academy.
  • For Firefighter Paramedic: Must currently possess a Utah State Paramedic License with the ability to maintain the licensure.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age (Firefighter AEMT) or 21 years of age or older (Firefighter Paramedic) at the time of employment.
  • Must have refrained from ever using hallucinogenic drugs; marijuana in the past two (2) years; all other illegal drug use (including steroids) in the past five (5) years.
  • Must be a non-smoker and have refrained from use of any tobacco products(s) for the past 12 months.
  • Must have a good driving record free from "at fault" accidents and convictions for violations of criminal traffic infractions to include adjudication withheld for the past 12 months.
  • A good driving record will include no driver's license suspension within the past five years.
  • Must not have been convicted or plead nolo contendere to any 1st or 2nd degree misdemeanor within the last three years.
  • Possession of a valid Utah Driver's License.
  • Possession of a Utah State Firefighter I & II and Hazmat Operations certification (for AEMT).
  • Possession of Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) certification (for AEMT).
  • For Paramedic: Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (NREMT-P) (must currently possess or be able to obtain by June 1st, 2022).
  • For Paramedic: Firefighter I & II certification. (must currently possess or be able to obtain by June 1st, 2022).
  • CPAT Test Results (must be able to provide scores from a testing within the last 12 months or be able to pass the test when the department next holds a testing session).

Nice To Haves

  • Course work in fire science, fire administration or a related field is desirable.
  • Possession of a NWCG Wildland certification is preferred (for AEMT).
  • Preference may be given to applicants with experience as a Firefighter/AEMT or Firefighter/Paramedic (for Paramedic).
  • For Paramedic: NWCG Red Card certification (or be able to obtain certification within the first year of employment).

Responsibilities

  • Responding to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous materials, urban rescue and wildland interface, and other calls to protect life and property.
  • Participating in fire prevention and training.
  • Maintaining the fire station and firefighting equipment.
