About The Position

This position is within the USPIS Forensics Laboratory, supporting the USPIS mission. The role offers the opportunity to work alongside a great team of forensics personnel and experienced professionals across all areas of forensics. The candidate will gain first-hand knowledge of the USPIS mission and be involved in various forensics activities, including assisting in working cases and reducing a large backlog. The work takes place within the Firearms Unit in a fully-functioning, accredited laboratory.

Requirements

• Demonstrated ability to study and pass training, examination, and testing assessments
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• US citizen with the ability to obtain a clearance with the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS)
• US Citizenship required
• Ability to obtain/maintain USPIS clearance required

Nice To Haves

• B.S. degree with at least twenty-four (24) credit hours in the Physical Sciences
• Experience working in an accredited laboratory

Responsibilities

• Receive and inventory evidence
• Process, analyze and examine evidence according to forensic science discipline and accreditation standards and FLS policies and procedures
• Create examination documentation for work performed
• Issue forensic laboratory examination reports
• Provide expert testimony on work performed
