About The Position

The Fire System Technician II is responsible for testing, inspecting, maintaining, and programming fire alarms. The technician will ensure fire alarm and fire suppression systems meet standards as dictated by state and local Fire Marshals. This role involves performing skilled labor duties related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment, diagnosing problems, and performing service and repairs on electronic fire alarm systems at customer sites. The technician will verify system functional performance, calibrate devices, and perform site surveys. They will communicate system performance and deficiencies to customers for quoting repairs, complete projects within estimates, and serve as a technical advisor on systems programming and code requirements. Documentation of all work, reading blueprints, and exhibiting excellent customer service are key aspects of this role. The technician will stay updated on product changes and maintenance techniques, be available for duties outside normal working hours, participate in on-call schedules, and act as a mentor to lower-level technicians. Adherence to safety guidelines and administrative duties are also required. This position directly supervises employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities including training, planning, assigning work, appraising performance, and resolving issues.

Requirements

  • Six (6)+ years in the installation and maintenance of Fire Safety products
  • Siemens programming experience
  • FASA/BASA certified (or ability to be certified upon hire)
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver's license in good standing to meet the company's driving requirements
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and be available on-call
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Able to perform installing, configuring, troubleshooting, programming, and replacing parts as needed on all fire alarm systems and complete documentation as necessary
  • Demonstrated ability to use diagnostic tools such as multi-meters, digital analyzers, programmers, and commissioning devices
  • Skilled with low-voltage wiring and associated devices
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical operations and calculations (e.g., addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, order of operations) to calculate labor, materials, and/or cost estimates for projects and work orders, etc.
  • Must have the ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in the English language at a 12th-grade level

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled labor duties related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Diagnose problems and perform installation, service, and repairs on electronic fire alarm systems and other related building system products at customer sites.
  • Verify system functional performance to ensure proper operations according to contract requirements, including testing, calibrating, and verifying system and peripheral device operations as per the preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Perform complete site surveys and visual inspections of all system devices.
  • Communicate system performance and deficiencies to customers for accurate and efficient quoting of recommended repairs.
  • Perform all duties required to complete projects within the estimate and according to specifications.
  • Serve as a technical advisor on systems programming and configuration, and coordinate code requirements with local fire marshals.
  • Complete documentation of all work done, including all readings, offsets, etc.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittts, specifications, software/systems, programs, schematics, and operational product manuals.
  • Exhibit excellent customer service skills by consistently communicating with the district staff and customers to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Keep abreast of changes and new developments in product and preventive maintenance techniques.
  • Availability for and performance of duties outside of normal working hours.
  • Participates in on-call assignments/schedules.
  • Acts as a mentor and provides on-the-job training to lower-level Field Service Technicians and Inspectors as assigned.
  • Adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times.
  • Administrative duties such as reports, schedules, safety incident documents, etc.
  • Maintain care and cleanliness of the company vehicle and tools under company policy.
  • Directly supervises employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities per the organization's policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
