Fire Systems Technical Specialists (Radio), under the supervision of the Superintendent of Fire Alarm or Assistant Superintendent of Fire Alarm, shall design, build, install, inspect and repair all division systems and equipment (including radio fire-box transmitters and receivers, microwave, two-way mobile radios, towers up to 230 feet in height, and antennas) and other duties as may be required by the Superintendent of Fire Alarm, the Assistant Superintendent of Fire Alarm, and the Fire Department Chief. Tasks may include assisting other Fire Systems Technical Specialists in their duties when needed. May be required to respond to emergency calls which may occur at any time during a twenty- four-hour period.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be twenty-one (21) years of age on or before the date of application
  • Possess a HS diploma or GED
  • Minimum two (2) years of work experience in radio-related fields (e.g., electronics, communications, and information technology).
  • Civil Service Commission screening, including polygraph, job suitability assessment, background investigation, drug testing, etc., as required per Civil Service Commission Rule 5
  • Valid work authorization that does not require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • A two-year associate degree in radio-related fields (e.g., electronics, communications, and information technology) may be substituted for one (1) year of job-relevant work experience.
  • A four-year bachelor’s degree in one or more of those radio-related fields may be substituted for two (2) years of job-relevant work experience.
  • NICET Level 2 or 3 or Certified Electronic Technician (CET) course completion from ETA Int’l would be preferred
  • Digital P25 trunking radio systems, outdoor warning sirens, radio test equipment, and working on fire trucks and rigs
  • Installing, maintaining, and repairing fire apparatus equipment.
  • Fabrication and CAD design
  • Installing, maintaining distributed antenna systems (DAS) for enhanced radio coverage in buildings.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, install, inspect and repair all division electronic systems and equipment (including transmitters and receivers, two-way mobile radios, communication towers up to 230 feet in height, and antennas, equipment rack and mount design constructions)
  • Other duties may be required by the Superintendent of Fire Alarm, the Assistant Superintendent of Fire Alarm, and the Fire Department Chief.
  • Assisting other Fire Systems Technical Specialists in their duties when needed.
  • Respond to emergency calls which may occur at any time during a twenty-four-hour period.
