About The Position

Impact Fire Services is seeking a Fire Sprinkler Technician to join their dynamic team. This role involves the inspection, service, and repair of various fire sprinkler systems, including Wet, Dry, Pre-action, Deluge, and Foam systems, as well as testing, rebuilding, and replacing Backflow Preventers. The technician will be responsible for identifying trouble areas, performing efficient and professional service, and ensuring sprinkler systems operate correctly. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, customer-service oriented, organized, professional, and a good communicator, capable of establishing rapport and building positive relationships with customers. This position also includes responsibilities for job, inventory, and vehicle preparation, including preparing sprinkler pipe, stocking trucks, performing basic vehicle maintenance, managing inventory, and collaborating with general contractors. A strong working knowledge of NFPA codes is essential, and the role may involve using a Sprinkler Pipe Threader, backflow tester, pipe wrench, various lifts, and common pipe fitting tools. The position requires the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 75 pounds, push and pull greater than 75 pounds, safely use and climb ladders to at least 24 feet, and work comfortably at heights over 26 feet.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • TQP License is required
  • Minimum of 2-3 years field experience in Fire Sprinkler Inspections and service
  • Must have or be able & willing to attain state Sprinkler and/or Backflow License
  • Ability to adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements
  • Fire and /or Life Safety Systems experience
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to exercise effective time management skills (prioritize, work on a time-line)
  • Must have a strong mechanical aptitude
  • Must be able to visually inspect and service sprinkler and backflow systems
  • Must be able to recognize alarm sights and sounds
  • Strong working knowledge of NFPA codes
  • May (often will) require ability to effectively use a Sprinkler Pipe Threader
  • Must be able to effectively use backflow tester, pipe wrench, various lifts and common pipe fitting tools
  • Must be able to safely and effectively use general hand tools and power tools
  • Must be capable of using various Arial lifts and boom trucks
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 75 pounds
  • Must be able to push and pull greater than 75 pounds as needed
  • Must be able to safely use and climb a ladder and reach a height of at least 24 feet
  • Must be able, on a regular basis, work comfortably at a height of greater than 26 feet

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years of proven success in performance of Sprinkler inspection, installation, and service is highly preferred
  • NICET Certification in Inspection & Testing of Water-Based Systems and/or Water-Based Systems Layout, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Inspection, service, and repair of Wet, Dry, Pre-action, Deluge and Foam systems
  • Testing, rebuilding and/or replacing Backflow Preventers
  • Identifying trouble areas and performing service in an efficient and professional manner
  • Performing fire sprinkler inspections and services per NFPA and engineering guidelines
  • Repairing and/or replacing all sprinkler systems components
  • Repairing, replacing and rebuilding backflow preventers as necessary
  • Verifying proper communication with monitoring station when working on a monitored system after repair
  • Performing system tests to verify alarm & sprinkler systems are working properly upon completion of repair
  • Reporting Deficiencies to Department Manager
  • Preparing sprinkler pipe, using threader when needed, and stocking truck with inventory required to perform the job
  • Working efficiently and utilizing resources to complete jobs in a timely manner
  • Performing basic vehicle maintenance and keeping work truck clean and organized
  • Managing inventory and tools for each job to assure proper parts and tools are on hand
  • Collaborating with general contractors as necessary
  • Completing NFPA certification and life safety testing, maintaining current knowledge of NFPA code
  • Performing disassembly, inspection and repair of sprinkler and backflow valves
  • Performing visual inspection of sprinkler and fire suppression systems checking the systems components from ground level
  • Exercising, turning, and lubricating sprinkler system valves
  • Reading gauges and recording information, noting deficiencies and ensuring pressures are within acceptable levels
  • Running main drain tests on all risers
  • Performing testing of control valve function
  • Tripping, observing, and resetting Dry Valves
  • Testing RP, DC, & RVB Backflow system functions and noting deficiencies
  • Performing water flow testing on sprinkler system
