About The Position

Wayne Automatic Fire Sprinklers, Inc. is seeking Fire Sprinkler Fitters and Apprentices for its Tampa branch to work in the surrounding areas. Apprentices will support the Commercial Foreman with daily tasks on the job site, reporting to the Commercial Superintendent/Manager and working under the direction of the Commercial Foreman. This is a fast-paced position that requires frequent ladder climbing, use of industry tools, working overhead, lifting up to 60 pounds, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, climbing, and regular walking. The role involves installing fire sprinkler systems accurately, on schedule, and within budget, working with the Foreman to follow procedures, blueprints, and instructions to assemble and install pipes, tubes, and fittings. This includes connecting fire pump valves and pipes, securing pipes with brackets, clamps, and hangers, and ensuring systems are glued properly and tested for leaks. Employees are required to attend monthly safety meetings and work outdoors on job sites in all seasons, including summer months. Physical requirements include standing, sitting, bending, lifting, and climbing.

Requirements

  • Construction experience preferred but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools.
  • Travel within the local community is required with reliable transportation.
  • Must possess the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to wear proper protective equipment as required on all job sites.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check screening including 10 years of employment verification is required to be hired at Wayne Automatic.

Responsibilities

  • Install Fire Sprinkler systems accurately, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Work with the Foreman on the job site to follow procedures, blueprints, and instructions to assemble and install pipes, tubes, and fittings.
  • Connect fire pump valves and pipes using threaded, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints and hand tools.
  • Assist with and secure pipes to structure with brackets, clamps and hangers using hand and power tools.
  • Run lines and sprinkler heads straight and in accordance with plans, adjust hangers, etc.
  • Ensure systems are glued together properly and follow procedures to test the system for leaks.
  • Attend monthly safety meetings at the local branch.
  • Work outside on job sites for long hours in all seasons including summer months.
