The Fire Sprinkler Designer works with sales and technical staff to interpret project specifications and drawings, determine system layouts, and deliver accurate, professional design work. The role supports pre-sale site visits, system design, and estimating, and leads post-sale system design, including equipment selection. It reviews plans and specifications prepared by other firms, creates AutoCAD background floor plans from scanned or hardcopy documents, performs equipment and device takeoffs, and maintains project documentation. The designer coordinates with customers and internal teams to resolve questions and complaints, support project progress, and provide prompt, accurate service. The position requires sprinkler design and field-survey capabilities, including use of sprinkler design software for layout, digitizing, design, stock listing, and fabrication purposes. Duties include coordinating designs with other trades using native AutoCAD files and BIM technology, evaluating water supplies, performing hydraulic calculations for tree and loop systems, and designing standpipe systems and fire pump rooms. The role also requires detailed knowledge of applicable fire protection codes and NICET Level II certification in Water-Based Fire Protection Systems Layout. This role is performed in a normal office environment with a usually moderate noise level, and may involve field work and travel. Extended hours may be required to meet timelines, and travel may include nights and weekends to accommodate customer schedules. Physical demands include occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders or scaffolding, and working in tight or confined spaces. The budgeted pay range as of November 2024 is $94,000.00–$121,718.64, depending on factors including experience, qualifications, certifications, and geographic considerations.
