About The Position

To perform inspections and maintenance on fire detection and suppression systems in accordance with applicable UMMC policies and procedures and state and federal regulations and standards. To provide guidance and training to UMMC personnel concerning safety procedures and the proper use of fire suppression equipment.

Requirements

Degree (Associate's or Bachelor's) and two (2) years' work experience in fire safety, general safety compliance, or emergency management
HAZWOPER certification required post-hire within one year
Knowledge of federal, state, and local fire regulations and protocols.
Knowledge of fire sprinkler systems, wet/dry chemical systems, and suppression systems.
Skills in performing safety inspections on fire detection and suppression systems and ensuring compliance with applicable safety codes and regulations.
Classroom instructional and hands-on training skills.
The ability to work in or around hazardous conditions such as exposure to flames, chemicals, and biological agents (required to wear personnel protective equipment).
The ability to communicate effectively and react calmly in emergency situations.
The ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare and/or present reports.

Nice To Haves

Degree (Associate's or Bachelor's) in Fire Science, Fire Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety, or Emergency Management.
CFI-I certification

Responsibilities

Reviews Life Safety plans.
Reviews construction documents for all projects, attend meetings, conducts regular construction rounds.
Maintains life safety documents for accreditation purposes.
Serves as a leader on the fire response team.
Serves as person in charge on code red events.
Available for call after normal business hours including nights, weekends, holidays.
Conducts periodic routine inspections and/or tests of facilities, fire equipment, and detection and suppression systems.
Prepares and maintains documentation related to inspections and tests; maintains inventory of and location drawings of fire equipment.
Ensures compliance with and keeps abreast of changes in state, national fire protection association (NFPA), occupational safety and health administration (OSHA), and other relevant safety codes and regulations.
Reviews plans for placements of exits, fire suppression systems, and technical features such as automatic closing doors and ventilation flow.
Conducts fire safety and prevention classes; conducts hands-on training in fire equipment usage.
Serves as a member of and assists in the training of the UMMC fire brigade.
