About The Position

At the Oregon State Fire Marshal (OSFM), our mission is simple yet crucial: to protect people, property, and the environment from fire and hazardous materials. Guided by a set of unwavering values, we strive to uphold integrity, dedication, leadership, partnership, and service to others in all we do. The OSFM actively supports a workforce representative of the communities we serve. We embrace diversity, practice inclusive excellence, and strive for equity and belonging to maintain a workplace where everyone is treated with respect and dignity. We value all lived experiences and welcome members of historically underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, LGBTQIA2S+, women, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and others to apply. The OSFM is recruiting a Fire Risk Reduction Specialist (Operations & Policy Analyst 3) assigned to District 6 (Klamath, Lake, Harney, and Malheur counties). Klamath, Lake, Harney, and Malheur counties make up Oregon’s vast high‑desert interior – huge in land area, sparsely populated, and shaped by agriculture, ranching, and public lands – with Klamath County the most populous and tied to farming, forestry, and outdoor tourism; Lake County defined by remote rangeland, timber, and geothermal resources; Harney County dominated by federal land and cattle operations around Burns; and Malheur County oriented toward irrigated agriculture and Intermountain West culture along the Idaho border. As a Fire Risk Reduction Specialist (FRRS) you will prepare communities for wildfire by identifying, defining, and prioritizing the risk to Oregon communities, and utilizing an integrated and strategic investment of resources to reduce fire occurrence and impact. With a primary focus on the built environment, targeted efforts include improvement of structural resiliency to wildfire, enhancement of defensible space for homes and surrounding structures, ensuring adequate access and egress in the event of wildfire events, and overall improvement of structural fire prevention efforts through community risk reduction efforts. Become a part of the OSFM team and together, let's continue working towards a safer, more resilient Oregon for everyone!
