The Massport Fire‑Rescue Intern will gain hands‑on exposure to Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF), emergency preparedness, training operations, and administrative functions that support a major public‑safety department. Interns will gain a unique understanding of how Massport Fire‑Rescue ensures readiness for aircraft emergencies, facility incidents, and airport‑wide emergency response.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program at a college or university.
  • This position is based at Massport's Fire Rescue Headquarters.
  • Ability to work a 37.5-hour work week.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application.
  • Ability to pass Massport’s pre-employment-controlled substance test and background checks.
  • Ability to pass Massport security clearance and obtain a Massport Security Badge.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily Fire‑Rescue administrative tasks, including maintaining training records, equipment logs, and operational documentation.
  • Observe Fire‑Rescue personnel during non‑emergency operational activities to understand airport fire operations and response readiness.
  • Shadow Fire‑Rescue personnel to gain exposure to aircraft firefighting techniques, emergency response protocols, and airport safety operations.
  • Learn how Fire‑Rescue collaborates with other Massport units, including Aviation Operations, Emergency Management, and Airport Security.
  • Assist with audits and updating emergency plans, checklists, and preparedness materials used for airport drills and regulatory compliance.
  • Support controlled facility inspections and readiness checks of fire stations, training grounds, and response vehicles.
  • Prepare and format reports, presentations, and training materials for Fire‑Rescue leadership.
  • Assist with data entry, filing, file organization, and general office support tasks.
  • Conduct research on Fire‑Rescue best practices, emergency operations, and related ARFF topics as assigned.
