About The Position

ProSidian seeks a Fire Protection Technician | Fire Protection (Fire Tech) for Program Support on a SCA – Service Contract Act / Service Contract Labor Standards (SCLS) Basis for Working On-Site (Client Site) in The Southeast | South Atlantic | CONUS Area (Aiken, South Carolina). This role is contract contingent, generally located across the Aiken, South Carolina and surrounding Southeast | South Atlantic | CONUS Region, supporting a High-hazard nuclear cleanup environment requiring disciplined staffing, safety, quality, security, and regulatory compliance. The Fire Protection Technician is aligned with GSA Labor Category: Applied Engineer 2 and is principally focused on ProSidian Strategic Resourcing and Professional Staff Augmentation for Fire Protection (Fire Tech) Solutions and Services. We seek candidates with relevant Nuclear And Environmental Management Sector Experience to support professional services engagement for clients such as SRMC. This position is a Contract Contingent or Contract W-2 (IRS-1099) Fire Protection (Fire Tech) Functional Area / Swim Lane / Category Discipline Professional role, though ProSidian reserves the right to convert it to a Full-Time ProSidian employed W-2 Position. The role involves providing services and support aligned with the Fire Protection (Fire Tech) Functional Area / Swim Lane / Category Discipline in the Nuclear And Environmental Management Industry Sector, focusing on Human Capital | Project Management | Engineering | Environmental | Compliance | Risk Management | IT Effectiveness | Business Process | Training Knowledge Management Solutions for clients such as Savannah River Mission Completion, LLC (SRMC) | SRMC Supply Chain / Procurement supporting the Liquid Waste Program. The position supports fire protection activities, maintenance, and field procurement engineering by handling planning, analysis, coordination, documentation, compliance, quality assurance, and stakeholder engagement.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and 1+ year of direct work experience with fire control systems inspection and maintenance
  • Possess NICET level 1 or higher certification (s)
  • To remain in the position, must be able to demonstrate and apply knowledge of fire protection system orders and policies and retain training qualifications as required by management.
  • Fire alarm and sprinkler inspection; pumps; wet/dry/deluge systems; troubleshooting; NFPA codes; blueprints; corrective-action reporting; NICET
  • Safety ownership; technical judgment; field communication; documentation; physical readiness; stop-work authority

Nice To Haves

  • NICET II or III certification
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Fire Protection or related
  • Working knowledge of NFPA codes standards
  • Previous high hazard experience
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Basic computer aptitude

Responsibilities

  • Safety is a primary responsibility in each job performed. Obtain safety training, obey safety rules, and make safety an integral part of each task. Take necessary steps to stop work if continuing the activity is unsafe or will create and unsafe condition.
  • Understands site policies and procedures to service, troubleshoot, conduct repairs and maintenance on various systems, apparatus, and equipment including wet, dry, deluge, fire pumps, and electrical components. Assists senior personnel to disassemble, inspect, and repair equipment that requires specialized knowledge or is exceptionally hazardous.
  • Applies NFPA codes and standards to mitigate fire and safety risks.
  • Conducts visual and manual inspections and system tests including control valve functions to verify alarm and sprinkler systems are operating properly.
  • Tests, diagnoses moderately complex problems, troubleshoots, and services fire detectors, fire alarms, fire doors and panels, and other fire control containment equipment.
  • Liaises with internal and external representatives to test fire pumps and identify and clarify issues with fire protection systems.
  • Interprets blueprints, diagrams, and operational materials to resolve issues.
  • Generates standard and ad hoc reports and utilizes corrective action systems and processes to report issues and findings.
  • Operates motorized vehicles and associated equipment within policy and licensing limits.
  • Performs administrative functions as needed.
  • Meets and performs the physical requirements of the job duties, which may include lifting/handling up to 50 pounds, climbing, bending, twisting, exposure to extreme temperatures, wearing protective clothing/equipment (including respiratory) and meeting radiological control requirements.
  • Acquire and maintain NICET level 2 certifications: Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems, Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems, and Special Hazards Systems.
  • Supports the company’s Fire Inspection Program; a comprehensive Life Safety, Fire Prevention and Fire Hazard Inspection Program. Tests, diagnoses issues, conducts repairs and maintenance, and reports of a variety of fire control systems including fire detectors, fire barriers/doors, fire alarms, fire sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and other fire control components.
