About The Position

This position is responsible for conducting fire safety inspections and maintaining fire protection systems and related equipment, including fire extinguishers, sprinklers, and fire alarms. The specialist also develops and implements fire safety plans and educates employees and visitors about fire safety procedures.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
At least 4 years of specific fire prevention or protection experience required.
Strong working knowledge of NFPA standards.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Ability to lift 50 pounds, walk long distances and travel through the facility on foot, use stairs and ladders, and occasionally use a scissor lift or boom lift.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in fire science, engineering, or a related field; an associate degree in fire science; or NFPA certifications preferred.
Possible proficiency in AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

Inspect fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, and other fire protection equipment to ensure they are working properly.
Test fire alarm systems to ensure they function properly.
Investigate fires to determine their causes and recommend ways to prevent future fires.
Prepare reports on findings and present them to management.
Train employees in proper fire safety procedures.
Develop and implement evacuation plans.
Coordinate with local fire departments to ensure compliance with fire codes.
Inspect buildings to identify potential fire hazards.
Work with architects and engineers to design fire-safe buildings.
Install fire suppression systems in new buildings.
Monitor changes in building code requirements and revise plans accordingly.
Keep abreast of new fire safety technology and products.
Perform other duties as assigned.
