Requirements

  • BS in Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university program.
  • Registered engineer in fire protection; or in related discipline (e.g., mechanical, or electrical) and willing to become registered in fire protection by exam.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in major aspects of industrial fire protection and life safety, and major codes and standards, including: NFPA suppression system standards (water, foam, foam-water, gaseous), NFPA alarm system standards (including air aspiration), DOE and DOD, API, ICC, FM Global Data Sheets
  • Experience with special hazards, including: Electric generating plants (hydroelectric, fossil fuels), Facilities handling nuclear materials, Battery energy storage systems, Flammable and combustible liquids, LNG and LPG, Explosions and deflagrations
  • Experience with existing facility evaluations
  • Experience with fire hazard and risk evaluations / analyses
  • Experience with fire modeling
  • Experience with life safety (NFPA, IBC/IFC, OSHA)
  • Experience with performance based design
  • Experience with hydraulic analysis
  • Familiarity with various CAD programs such as AutoCAD, Revit, HydraCAD (and HydraCalc)
  • Familiarity with hydraulic analysis software (e.g., HASS, HydraCALC)
  • Must be able to communicate complex ideas clearly and in a manner readily understood by stakeholders outside the fire protection profession
  • Must be able to write clearly and succinctly
  • Must be able to engage stakeholders (client, authority, management) in discussions related to fire and life safety issues and clearly communicate
  • Must be familiar with Earned Value Measurement System (EVMS)
  • Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carried of 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing, and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. No foot controls necessary.
  • Must be alert to equipment in the field
  • Occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery
  • Occasional need to walk on uneven ground
  • Exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
  • Standard office PC, with software will be provided
  • Attendance: ability to work in the office is required when needed
  • Must take and pass a pre-employment drug and background check.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must put forward professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to self or others.
