About The Position

Osborn Engineering is seeking a Fire Protection and Life Safety Engineer with 5+ years of experience for our Cleveland Office Headquarters. Osborn is a fully integrated multi-disciplined design firm founded in 1892, with over 225 professionals specializing in various engineering fields. As an employee-owned firm, Osborn is committed to advancement and pride in project completion. The ideal candidate will have proficient knowledge of Revit and Fire Protection design in a consulting engineering environment, with a preferred background in Smoke Control Rational Analysis and modeling. This role reports to the Manager of Fire Protection Engineering.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of Fire Protection Design Experience in Consulting Engineering.
  • Proficient knowledge of fire protection and life safety systems design and modeling software such as Revit. (Required)
  • Proficient knowledge of local and national building codes, life safety and fire code requirements including both ICC-based codes and NFPA codes and standards
  • Working knowledge of industry standards and guidelines, including, but not limited to UFC and FM
  • Proficient knowledge of standard construction practices and the ability to work with contractors to address construction issues.
  • Experience in designing Healthcare, Sports, Commercial, Public Sector, Industrial, Education, and/or Institutional projects.
  • Excellent Organizational and Communication skills.
  • Ability to work on projects with a multi-disciplinary team with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to work on and manage several tasks concurrently.
  • Proactive and Collaborative team member.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient knowledge of fire protection and life safety systems design and modeling software such as PyroSim, CFAST, CONTAM, etc. (Preferred)
  • Proficient knowledge of Smoke Control Rational Analysis and Design. (Preferred)
  • FPE or PE License. (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis, design and documentation of fire protection systems.
  • Develop fire protection strategies, performance-based design approaches, and alternative solutions to provide solutions for clients.
  • Conduct building and fire code studies and life safety evaluations independently or with little oversight or training.
  • Coordinate with other A/E disciplines for all Fire Protection design elements, including but not limited to, architectural, MEP, civil, and structural.
  • Prepare design deliverables for A/E SD, DD, CD level documents independently or with minimal oversight or training, including, but not limited to, written reports/narratives, drawings, and specifications.
  • Meet with contractors during the bid phase to review the design details.
  • Perform field verification of existing systems for renovation projects.
  • Perform project construction administration including response to RFI’s and accurate review of submittals.
  • Review designs prepared by others as part of Osborn’s QA/QC process.
  • Attend meetings with clients, authorities having jurisdiction, and other professionals as projects require.
  • Work planning and manage the design process to the available hours in the work plan.
