Under supervision (Fire Prevention Specialist I) or general supervision (Fire Prevention Specialist II) in a civilian capacity, performs a variety of technical work including technical plan checks and inspections for a variety of facilities and construction sites to ensure compliance with State and local fire and life safety codes and ordinances; assists in coordinating public fire education program; maintains a variety of records, files, and related documents; performs related work as required. The Fire Prevention Specialist I is the entry-level class, performing more routine tasks with limited scope. The Fire Prevention Specialist II is the full journey-level classification, performing the full range of duties with greater complexity and independence. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and typically filled by progression from Fire Prevention Specialist I or by external candidates with directly related experience and required licenses.
