About The Position

A Fire & Police Benefits Analyst II provides complex retirement plan assistance to sworn City employees involving benefits counseling, determining benefits eligibility and calculating benefits of sworn City employees. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive minimal supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where working conditions are normal. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three years of experience in the field of retirement benefits or related employee benefits work, fiscal analysis work, actuarial work or investment planning work or a related field.
  • Authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
  • Must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
  • Education must be obtained from an accredited institution.
  • Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency.
  • Provide sufficient information on application to show that minimum qualifications are met.
  • Knowledge of retirement plans and laws.
  • Knowledge of current developments in the field of retirement benefits.
  • Ability to interpret and use actuarial tables.
  • Ability to perform complex statistical work and mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to gather and analyze confidential and sensitive data.
  • Ability to research and resolve complex retirement benefit problems and questions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, retirees and their families, City agency personnel officers and others.

Nice To Haves

  • A master’s degree may be substituted for one year of the required work experience.
  • IFE (International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans Internship Program) certification may also be substituted for one year of required work experience.
