About The Position

This position, located within the Anchorage Fire Department (AFD), operates under the general direction of the Fire Marshal. The Fire Investigator responds to fire and explosion scenes to determine the origin and cause of the incident. Responsibilities include directing personnel during on-scene investigations, securing and processing evidence related to arson crimes, and collaborating with the Anchorage Police Department to prepare cases and provide testimony in judicial proceedings. The role requires the applicant to be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States, as the Municipality of Anchorage cannot provide sponsorship. This position is represented by the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) - Local 1264 Union.

Requirements

Responsibilities

• Responds to fire and explosion scenes to investigate and determine fire origin and cause.
• Directs assigned personnel to perform a variety of duties during on-scene fire investigations.
• Secures and processes all necessary evidence when investigating crimes of arson.
• Works with members of the Anchorage Police Department to prepare cases and provide testimony during judicial proceedings.
