About The Position

The City of Jacksonville Fire Department is seeking experienced Fire Engineers to join their team. The Fire Department performs responsible protective service work, including fire suppression and rescue services, often under emergency conditions and with personal hazard. The posted salary range is $51,028.84 - $66,337.50, depending on qualifications.

Requirements

Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Successful completion of training courses.
2.5 years of progressive firefighting experience (including 1 year as a Firefighter II or equivalent municipal fire service experience).
Class B Driver’s License valid in NC.
NC Firefighter or IFSAC/Pro Board equivalent certification.
NC Hazardous Materials Operations or IFSAC/Pro Board equivalent certification.
NC Emergency Medical Technician certification or ability to obtain reciprocity from NC Office of Emergency Medical Services (Boarded in Onslow County within 90 days).
NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 certifications.
NC Emergency Vehicle Driver or equivalent certification.
NC Driver Operator/Pumps or IFSAC/Pro Board equivalent certification.
NC Driver Operator/Aerials or IFSAC/Pro Board equivalent certification.
NC Fire Inspector Level 1 or equivalent through NCDOI Comity (Obtain and maintain within 12 months of hire).
NC Technical Rescuer Common Passenger Vehicle Rescue Series or IFSAC/Pro Board equivalent certification.
Valid certifications awarded to prior NCOSFM certification standards are accepted.
General knowledge of firefighting apparatus and equipment and their safe use and operation.
General knowledge of the location of hydrants and stations in an assigned district.
General knowledge of firefighting and rescue principles, methods, and techniques.
General knowledge of hydraulics and automotive maintenance as applied to emergency rescue activities.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to perform prolonged manual and mechanical work under adverse conditions.
Mechanical aptitude.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

Nice To Haves

Child Passenger Safety Technician certification (Obtain and maintain within 12 months of hire).

Responsibilities

Operating, maintaining, and servicing firefighting equipment.
Responding to emergency fire and medical related situations.
Maintaining station and grounds.
Continuing training and instruction.
Driving firefighting equipment to emergency scenes and preparing for pumping operations.
Pumping water to fire at a designated pressure and ensuring proper hose location.
Monitoring the condition of the motor and unit during operation and making necessary adjustments.
Preparing and maintaining required log books and fire reports.
Checking equipment daily, including pumping equipment, ignition, batteries, and brakes, to ensure safe working condition and reporting any defects.
Cleaning equipment after returning from a fire.
Conducting child safety seat and smoke alarm inspections and installations.
Participating in station and grounds maintenance activities.
Performing the duties of a firefighter as required.
Maintaining physical fitness through exercise.
Participating in continuing training and instruction programs through individual study and attendance at drills and classes.
Performing related tasks as required.
