About The Position

This position is responsible for the testing/inspection, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of low voltage systems, including fire alarm systems, communication systems, and sound systems. The role involves performing skilled maintenance, installation, repair, and troubleshooting of electrical systems. The technician will also serve as a technical advisor on systems programming and configuration, coordinate code requirements with local fire marshals, and oversee the work of team members, training them on proper procedures. Additionally, the role requires analyzing blueprints and schematics, inspecting electrical systems, repairing components, diagnosing failures, and monitoring outside contractors for code adherence.

Requirements

  • Minimum of NICET Level I – Fire alarm certification.
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) with three or more years of related experience.
  • Experience working with addressable and conventional fire alarm systems.
  • Familiarity with Notifier, Simplex, and Siemens systems.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.
  • Must be able to meet contract security requirements.
  • Must possess knowledge of computer programming and technologies related to fire alarm, security and other low voltage systems.
  • Knowledge of current state regulations and codes required.
  • Ability to read schematics and follow written direction while working under minor supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of fire sprinkler systems is a plus.
  • A State of Maryland Journeyman Electrician License is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals and product manuals to properly program and verify new systems.
  • Serve as a technical advisor on systems programming and configuration, as well as coordinate code requirements with local fire marshals.
  • Oversee and ensure proper completion of work performed by team members, and train technicians and other employees on proper procedures.
  • Evaluate, diagnose and troubleshoot systems equipment that requires servicing.
  • Communicate systems performance to customer.
  • Communicate regularly with the senior systems coordinator on all low voltage projects.
  • Analyze blue prints, schematics, and drawings of electrical systems for the purpose of determining the efficient installation of new or upgraded systems.
  • Inspect electrical systems and their components for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance.
  • Repair electrical components and/or systems (e.g. motors, circuits, transformers, generators, compressors, switches, intercom systems, cafeteria kitchen equipment, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe working condition.
  • Diagnose causes of electrical problems or failures for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair.
  • Monitor work done by outside contractors for adherence to National Electrical Code Requirements and report back to supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
