About The Position

Lead emergency response at NASA’s Stennis Space Center. As Fire Captain, you’ll command incidents, lead and develop firefighting teams, and deliver hands-on training to keep crews mission-ready. This role blends leadership, operations, and specialized equipment expertise in a high-impact environment, with flexible shift options to support mission needs.

Requirements

  • Hold required Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor I, and Hazardous Materials Operations certifications (DoD/IFSAC, Pro Board, or Mississippi State), along with NIMS ICS 100–800 credentials.
  • Meet baseline qualifications, including high school diploma/GED, age 21+, valid Mississippi driver’s license, and compliance with all Performance Work Statement standards.
  • Obtain and maintain required security clearance, NASA physical certification, and pass all medical and psychological evaluations.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to understand and apply policies, procedures, and training materials in English.
  • Maintain a clean background (no illegal drug history or disqualifying convictions) and comply with drug-free workplace and random testing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead fire and rescue crews to protect life and property at Stennis Space Center, directing both routine operations and emergency response.
  • Serve as initial Incident Commander, assessing hazards and managing fire suppression, rescue, EMS, and HazMat incidents using ICS.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate personnel; develop and deliver training while ensuring certifications and readiness standards are met.
  • Operate and maintain proficiency on all fire apparatus, equipment, and specialized rescue tools.
  • Enforce safety, compliance, and departmental policies while maintaining professional communication with stakeholders and partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
