About The Position

Hiring for Fire Camp Chef begins in March for the fire season of May through October. We will be setting up camps, throwing freight, and serving hundreds of meals per day to hungry firefighters on an incident-to-incident basis from May to October. You may be called for one week, for four separate fires, or not at all, depending on what the fire team needs are that season. Happy Day maintains high expectations for the conduct of our staff, and we expect that staff will remain professional, problem-solving, and positively oriented at all times. There will be zero tolerance for unprofessional conduct, vulgarity, drugs, or alcohol at camp. Requirements

  • Self-starter, leadership ability, organizational skills, and commitment to excellence in serving the firefighters and others who keep our communities safe during disasters.
  • Available with 18 hours' notice for 7 to 13 days of tent camping in heat, cold, and smoky environments with limited phone and internet access.
  • Able to work a physically demanding general labor job while alternating early and late sleep/work shifts.
  • Able to get along with a small group of coworkers.
  • Applicants MUST be able to obtain their Washington Food Handler Card online upon acceptance of position, if offered.
  • Must remain professional, problem-solving, and positively oriented at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior fire camp, banquet service, kitchen prep, maintenance, or similar experience is preferred.
  • Drivers with Class A CDLs are preferred.
