About The Position

As a Fire Assay within the Fire Assay Floor, your main responsibilities are fluxing, fusion, and cupellation. You are also responsible to reporting for your shift to the Fire Assay manager.

Requirements

  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently with minimum supervision
  • Ability to organize workflow and planning to ensure deadlines are met
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Intermediate MS Office skills, specifically MS Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Safety oriented
  • Knowledge of GEMS and LIMS required
  • Minimum of 1 years laboratory Fire Assay experience in a production oriented environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to work within a hot and dusty environment
  • Clean shaven for Personal Protective Equipment (respirator)
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for up to 7.5 hours per day
  • Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities
  • Must be a Citizen or Permanent Resident of the country you are applying for, or either hold or be able to obtain, a valid working visa

Responsibilities

  • Crucible management and set up/prepare samples for fusion
  • Perform fusion and cupellation processes using furnace tools
  • Identify different samples and adjust chemical composition of flux to achieve quality fusion
  • Organize workload according to daily stats and turnaround commitments
  • Follow up on rush priority workloads
  • Identify and handle non-routine samples
  • Effectively liaise within department and Vancouver lab to communicate safety, quality and operational issues
  • Ensure all safe work procedures and standard working procedures are strictly adhered to
  • Assist in training and following up with new employees
  • Assist in keeping staff training records and controlled documents up-to-date
  • Maintain and organize departmental inventory, such as supplies and chemicals
  • Record and report shift production to the Fire Assay Manager
  • Follow equipment/work station cleaning and maintenance schedules
  • Ensure storage of hazardous waste in accordance with regulated health & safety procedures
  • Assist Manager / Supervisor to investigate and resolve client complaints and other quality issues
  • Assist in ensuring preventative maintenance schedule is followed
  • Other duties as assigned
