As a Fire Assay Technician within the Fire Assay department, your main responsibilities are fluxing, fusion and cupellation.

Requirements

• Familiar with all fire assay methods and their respective digestion volumes and finish methods
• Strong analytical and mechanical skills
• Organized and independently motivated
• Detail oriented
• Able to work independently or as part of a team
• Able to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issues
• Intermediate English communication skills (written and verbal)
• Basic MS Office skills, specifically MS Excel, Word and Outlook
• Safety oriented
• Able to lift up to 50lbs
• Able to work within a hot and dusty environment
• Must be willing to comply with the following H&S requirements: Be clean shaven for Personal Protective Equipment (respirator); Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required; Shower before the end of each shift; Undergo la lead blood test required every 6 months
• Able to stand for a full shift
• Able to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities
• Possess manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks
• To be eligible to work at ALS you must be a Citizen or Permanent Resident of the country you are applying for, or either hold or be able to obtain, a valid working visa.

Nice To Haves

• Minimum of one year Fire Assay laboratory work experience in a production oriented environment preferred

Responsibilities

• Manage crucibles and set up/prepare samples for fusion
• Perform fusion and cupellation processes using furnace tools
• Adjust flux based on sample matrices for common type of samples
• Follow up on rush priority workloads
• Ensure all safe work procedures and standard working procedures are strictly adhered to
• Maintain and organize departmental inventory, such as supplies and chemicals
• Ensure cleaning and maintenance schedules are complete
• Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality
• Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures
• Other duties as assigned
