About The Position

As a Fire and Theft Adjuster, you’ll play a critical role in enforcing the fundamental fairness on which our company was founded. You’ll be asked to push the boundaries of what’s required and to think critically as to what our customers want and how that best aligns with our product. Our goal is to leverage technology, data, and a team of highly talented people to build a claims experience that is recognized as number 1 in the industry. Root is a “work where it works best” company. Meaning we will support you working in whatever location that works best for you across the US. We will continue to have our headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of successful experience handling insurance claims, where you were directly responsible for coverage decisions, issuing payments, taking recorded statements, responding to correspondence, and following instructions from supervisors
  • Currently licensed in-home state if your state requires an Adjuster or Appraiser License
  • Ability to obtain and maintain insurance licenses in several states (including Texas) within three months
  • High sense of professionalism while remaining empathetic
  • Familiarity with claims best practices required
  • Curious in nature
  • Great attention to detail
  • Ability to approach problems with an open mind

Responsibilities

  • Delivers an industry-leading claim experience for all policyholders
  • Initiate investigation of claims involving fires and thefts, consistently making prompt and courteous contact with all involved parties
  • Maintain and update a task for each claim in the adjuster’s daily agenda
  • Respond to claim correspondence in a timely and quality manner
  • Resolve claims by investigating the loss details, policy coverages, and submitted documentation
  • Compose written correspondences to accurately inform the policyholders of the coverage decisions
  • Work closely with SIU and third party vendors
  • Ensure legal compliance by following company policies, state and federal insurance regulations
  • Provides input for continuous development of claims guidelines and best practices
  • Recommends potential product developments and process improvements
  • Interacts and communicates effectively with customers, peers, vendors, and managers
  • Engages in learning opportunities to build knowledge of personal lines claims, court decisions impacting the claims function, current guidelines in claims function, and policy changes and modifications
