About The Position

KC Low Voltage is seeking an experienced Fire Alarm Technician Foreman to lead field crews, coordinate installations, and ensure projects are completed safely, correctly, and on schedule. This position combines advanced technical ability with hands-on leadership and is built for a natural leader who takes pride in developing others, setting the tone on the jobsite, and building a strong, accountable crew. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys running work and mentoring apprentices, and holds a high standard for safety and quality. The right candidate leads by example, communicates clearly with project managers, inspectors, and customers, and takes ownership of both the install and the team behind it. Hourly wage starts at $33.00+ depending on experience.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 5+ years as a low voltage technician with fire alarm or life safety experience.
  • Proven leadership or crew lead experience strongly preferred.
  • NICET Level I certification or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Strong experience installing, programming, and troubleshooting fire alarm systems.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 72, NEC, and related codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and fire alarm designs.
  • Familiarity with low voltage cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, fire-rated cable).
  • Leadership and mentoring capability.
  • Strong communication and professionalism.
  • High-level problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Regular bending, climbing, reaching, and walking.
  • Work from ladders, scissor lifts, and boom lifts.
  • Operate hand and power tools safely.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Flexible availability including occasional evenings, weekends, or on-call support as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical training in low voltage or life safety systems preferred.
  • Manufacturer certifications (e.g., Silent Knight, Autocall, Potter) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee installation of fire alarm panels, smoke detectors, pull stations, emergency communication systems, and related equipment per NFPA, NEC, and local codes.
  • Report to the Division Manager and collaborate with Project Managers to ensure projects are delivered on time and meet quality standards.
  • Supervise and mentor technicians and apprentices, promoting safe and efficient work practices.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair life safety systems.
  • Test, program, and commission fire alarm systems, including functional and sensitivity testing.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including as-built drawings, inspections, and compliance reports.
  • Serve as the primary field contact for clients, inspectors, and fire marshals.
  • Maintain OSHA, NFPA 72, and other safety standards across all jobsites.
  • Stay current on life safety technologies and applicable codes through ongoing training.
