About The Position

Fortis Native Group is hiring a full-time Fire Alarm System Mechanic for our Southern California contract supporting NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO. The Mechanic will respond to service calls, troubleshoot devices such as fire alarm panels and riser systems, and repair non-functioning fire alarms and suppression systems, restoring them to original functionality or replacing them if necessary. The role involves planning, performing, and coordinating periodic inspections, tests, and repairs of complex fire alarm systems, including Fire Alarm Controls, Water Based Suppression Systems, and Special Hazards Systems (Wet Chemical Fire Suppression, Clean Agent Fire Suppression, Water Mist Fire Suppression Systems). The position also requires preparing related records and reports.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience in the inspection and periodic testing of water-based fire protection systems.
  • Water-based systems installation, service, maintenance, and/or acceptance testing
  • Governmental enforcement of inspection and testing requirements for water-based systems
  • Must have a functional knowledge of all aspects of NFPA 25 and other applicable codes and regulations
  • NICET I / NICET II Certification

Nice To Haves

  • College degree or other certifications in related field desired.
  • Prior experience working with Federal contracts.
  • Former Mechanical technician experience.
  • OSHA 30 General Industry Certification

Responsibilities

  • Review drawings, specifications, codes, and standards.
  • Conduct installation activities.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repairs of Fire Alarm Systems and Fire Suppression Systems.
  • Determine the scope of an inspection assignment involving interfaces with other systems.
  • Inspect and repair fire alarm system to include, fire alarm panels, pull stations, bells, mini-horns, troubleshooting, Backflow prevention, Piping sprinkler water supply, Fire Risers and related suppression system equipment, & replace batteries as needed.
  • Inspect and test fire alarm and suppression systems to the prescribed standards.
  • Survey a system to identify types of devices, fire alarm system interfaces, potential problems, and existing documentation.
  • Determine the presence of other fire protection and building systems, and device locations.
  • Coordinate inspection and testing AHJ’s prior to and during the inspection.
  • Coordinate testing with other trades and specialties as needed.
  • Inspect Interfaces and Specialized Equipment
  • Test Functionality of Specialized and Interfaced Equipment and Circuits
  • Supervising the work of other fire alarm and suppression technicians as needed.
  • Creating monthly, quarterly & annual reports for fire alarm and suppression systems in a timely manner to meet client needs.
