About The Position

Johnson Controls helps customers keep their buildings safe and performing at their best through fire and life safety service, security, and building systems expertise. In this role, you will support customer sites with hands-on troubleshooting, repairs, and trusted service on critical systems. As a Fire Alarm Service Technician you will receive service calls, diagnose system issues, and perform repairs on electronic fire alarm systems and related building system products. You will work across multiple manufacturers' Fire & Life Safety systems, communicate directly with customers, and help ensure systems are restored quickly, safely, and professionally.

Requirements

4+ years of documented experience in low voltage electrical systems, including Fire/Life Safety systems, Access Control, Nurse Call, and Paging systems.
NICET Level II certification.
Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, submittals, and operational or product manuals.
Knowledge of test equipment, including multi-meter, digital analyzer, and commissioning devices.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Demonstrated customer service skills and a professional approach with customers and internal teams.
Ability to perform physical labor, including carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
Ability to work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions, including climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high-lift equipment up to 40 feet, and working within ducts, crawl spaces, and above ceilings.
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, to meet customer requirements.
Ability to maintain truck inventory to support timely response to customer needs.
Ability to follow and always adhere to safety guidelines and procedures.
Possess a valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company requirements.
Retain any licenses required by national, state, and local codes.

Nice To Haves

NICET Level III certification.
Experience with CCTV and IT/IP networks.

Responsibilities

Receive service calls from the Service Resource Center, including a brief description of equipment or system malfunctions.
Contact customer representatives to understand equipment and system problems.
Diagnose issues and perform service and repairs on electronic fire alarm systems and related building system products at customer sites.
Follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures and refer to technical manuals, part manuals, change notices, bulletins, and modification notices to repair equipment.
Service, troubleshoot, and install Fire & Life Safety systems from multiple manufacturers, including SimplexGrinnell.
Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittments, specifications, software systems, programs, schematics, and operational product manuals.
Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with district staff and customers to support customer satisfaction.
Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding using smart phones, laptops, and other communication devices.
Obtain customer signatures upon completion of service call assignments.
Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation and support team members by helping train or mentor others when needed.
Provide recommendations and solutions to help customers improve facility performance and resolve service-related issues, including quote support where applicable.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Own each service visit with accountability, safety, and integrity from initial diagnosis through final resolution.
Stay close to the work and focus on what matters by restoring customer systems efficiently and removing obstacles to timely service.
Use strong troubleshooting discipline, clear documentation, and candid communication to improve outcomes every day.
Work as one team with dispatch, district staff, and fellow technicians to deliver reliable solutions for customers.
Organize and effectively use technical resources, information, materials, and support to execute assigned tasks efficiently.
Perform troubleshooting and repair work on installed systems, including panel repair or reprogramming, device replacement or repair, resolving low voltage circuit troubles, and system testing.
Program fire alarm, security, and access control system panels as required by the job.
Complete all task-related, activity, productivity, and documentation requirements in a timely manner.
Be available for on-call and occasional after-hours work based on customer needs.
Present practical recommendations and support quotes that help customers improve system performance and building efficiency.
