About The Position

The purpose of the Fire Alarm & Security Technician position is to install, troubleshoot, service and repair fire alarm and security systems, and other fire and life safety products with minimal supervision. This role involves working with various fire alarm and suppression systems, programming software, and ensuring compliance with codes and standards. The technician will also be responsible for customer communication, documentation, safety procedures, and potentially training new technicians. Travel is a significant component of this role.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years of experience in the Fire Life Safety Industry, specifically in Fire Alarm.
  • NICET Level 1 Fire Alarm Certification.
  • Ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English with employees and customers.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements.
  • Ability to travel 90% of the time, locally.

Nice To Haves

  • NICET or state-specific certification.
  • 2 years of professional computer skills.
  • 2 years using business intelligence systems, Sage 300 CRE, or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot, service, and repair fire alarm and security systems.
  • Work with different manufacturers' clean agent and high-pressure suppression systems.
  • Program and troubleshoot a variety of fire alarm systems, including identifying and repairing ground faults.
  • Repair or replace fire alarm components such as FACPs, power supplies, and alarm-initiating devices.
  • Safely handle, remove, and replace explosive actuators like squibs and gas cartridge actuators.
  • Communicate professionally with internal and external customers, and offsite monitoring companies.
  • Be punctual and complete scheduled projects in a timely manner.
  • Use Field Service Lightning to track work orders, materials, and time.
  • Complete documentation on work orders.
  • Understand and follow SFS’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous communication program, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in weekly Toolbox talks.
  • Ensure all related safety documentation is accessible on each project.
  • Maintain company-provided vehicle cleanliness and maintenance.
  • Be placed on on-call status as required for emergency service requests.
  • Periodically attend seminars and training sessions to stay updated on technology, codes, and standards.
  • Train service technician trainees on applicable aspects of fire protection.
  • Other duties as assigned.
