About The Position

MCS is hiring for a NICET Certified Fire Alarm Programmer in Tampa or Orlando, FL. This is a full-time, permanent position with benefits. A Fire Alarm Programmer is responsible for configuring, testing, and troubleshooting fire alarm control panels (FAP) and associated devices to meet life safety codes and client requirements. They ensure proper system functionality, customize alarm sequences, and collaborate with technicians, engineers, and inspectors to ensure compliant system deployments.

Requirements

  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of fire alarm control panels (e.g., Simplex, EST, Notifier, Honeywell) and software programming tools.
  • Reading Blueprints: Ability to accurately read and interpret construction documents, blueprints, specifications, and riser diagrams.
  • Code Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) codes, specifically NFPA 72.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in system configuration software, Microsoft Office Suite, and cloud-based file-sharing platforms.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate technical issues to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate with distributed teams.
  • Requires 2 to 5+ years of hands-on experience in fire alarm system programming, testing, and servicing.
  • NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) II or III.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Fire Alarm Systems Levels II-IV are highly desired and often required.
  • Factory-specific certifications (e.g., Simplex, Notifier training) may also be necessary depending on the brand of equipment the company uses.
  • Experience with brands such as Fire-Lite, Silent Knight, FCI-Gamewell, Simplex, Siemens, EST is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • System Programming: Build, configure, and upload complete fire alarm system configurations based on approved project designs and drawings.
  • Testing and Commissioning: Conduct rigorous testing of systems to verify communication between panels, sensors, and notification devices, ensuring full operational capability before final hand-off.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve programming glitches, system faults, software/firmware issues, and communication errors.
  • Code Compliance: Interpret and apply local, state, and national fire safety regulations (such as NFPA standards) based on building types and hazard classifications.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of programming changes, system settings, panel configurations, and test results for compliance records.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with design, installation, and contracting teams, either on-site or remotely, to coordinate project files and scheduling.
