About The Position

At Ironsmith Fire, a Fire Alarm Helper is primarily responsible for working alongside the Lead Fire Alarm Technician while performing installations, making modifications or repairs and Inspections to fire alarm systems in accordance with the Ironsmith Fire approved shop drawings, NFPA standards, and local codes. The duties for this position start from project initiation in the field and continue to final delivery. This position requires a level of professionalism and eagerness to learn a craft that will cultivate a lifelong career in the industry.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates willingness and ability to learn fire alarm systems, installation methods, tools, drawings, codes, and company procedures.
  • Consistently follows safety practices, recognizes hazards, and raises concerns appropriately.
  • Reports to work as scheduled, follows direction, completes assigned responsibilities, and can be depended upon by the crew.
  • Performs assigned work carefully and accurately and recognizes when conditions differ from plans or instructions.
  • Works effectively with Lead Technicians, Foremen, other trades, customers, and project personnel and communicates issues promptly.
  • Adjusts to changing jobsite conditions, assignments, project types, and work priorities.
  • Demonstrates basic mechanical aptitude and develops the ability to identify problems and seek appropriate direction.
  • High school diploma or alternative.
  • Ability to learn to read construction drawings and fire alarm shop drawings.
  • Ability to successfully complete company-provided safety and technical training.
  • Must be able to obtain licenses or registrations required for work in assigned jurisdictions.
  • Reliable transportation to assigned job locations.
  • Ability and willingness to travel, including overnight travel when required.
  • Ability to work overtime and varying schedules based on project requirements.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation if the position/division requires it.
  • Ability to satisfy the physical requirements of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous construction, electrical, low-voltage, mechanical, or skilled-trade experience preferred but not required.
  • No previous fire alarm experience required.

  • Develop the ability to read and follow approved fire alarm shop drawings under the direction of the Lead Technician.
  • Notify the Lead Technician of any deviations from the plan and/or potential field changes.
  • Perform all tasks delegated by the Lead Fire Alarm Technician to assist in fulfilling project completion deadlines, meet scheduling requirements, and exceed the goals established by the field/daywork superintendent.
  • Assist the Lead Fire Alarm Technician in installing and testing installations of fire alarm systems in new or existing construction projects.
  • Follow designed plans and communicate needed design change to fit actual site requirements to the lead Technician.
  • Assist with installation in accordance with approved drawings and direction from the Lead Technician.

  • Perform other duties assigned by management.
