FIRE ALARM DESIGNER NICET Certified
About The Position
We are seeking a Fire Alarm Designer to join a growing team specializing in commercial construction and life safety systems. This role is ideal for someone with a strong technical background in fire alarm systems, CAD design, and construction coordination. The Fire Alarm Designer will be responsible for designing, drafting, and coordinating fire alarm system layouts for commercial and/or multifamily construction projects. This individual will work closely with project managers, engineers, and field teams to ensure code-compliant, accurate, and efficient system designs.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience in fire alarm design OR related field
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (or similar design software)
- Working knowledge of NFPA codes, especially NFPA 72
- Strong understanding of construction drawings and coordination
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Nice To Haves
- NICET Certification (preferred) – Level I or higher
- Experienced CAD Operator with construction exposure and willingness to learn fire alarm systems
- Experience in commercial or multifamily construction projects
- Familiarity with fire alarm manufacturers (Notifier, Simplex, Siemens, etc.)
- Knowledge of permitting and inspection processes
Responsibilities
- Design fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA 72, local codes, and project specifications
- Produce detailed drawings using AutoCAD or similar drafting software
- Develop layouts, riser diagrams, device placement, and wiring schematics
- Perform calculations for voltage drop, battery sizing, and circuit loading
- Coordinate designs with other trades (electrical, mechanical, architectural)
- Review plans, specifications, and submittals for accuracy and compliance
- Assist with permitting and AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) approvals
- Support project managers and field teams throughout the project lifecycle
- Revise drawings based on redlines and field changes
