About The Position

A Design Technician-Alarm for Wayne Automatic Fire Sprinklers, Inc. is responsible for operating with minimal supervision while effectively managing from inception to completion the project design and submittals. This role involves creating fire sprinkler system designs, performing hydraulic calculations, conducting field surveys, coordinating with other trades, submitting drawings for approval, and managing project documentation.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of fire alarm experience.
  • Minimum NICET Level I Fire Alarm.
  • Knowledge of NFPA codes and applicable Building Code.
  • Experience with AutoCAD 2024 or later.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects.
  • Proficient use of computers including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Able to effectively deal with frequent schedule changes, delays and/or unexpected events.
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven, sometimes stressful environment.
  • Excellent and professional verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Field experience is a plus.
  • REVIT Experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Layout/draw fire sprinkler systems including underground and overhead piping, pumps, standpipes, tanks and all other appropriate pertinent information using AutoCAD 2024 or later and the Hydratec third party application.
  • Hydraulically calculate all projects using the Hydratec calculation program, ensuring cost-effective sizing as allowed by code.
  • Conduct field surveys to verify structural elements and sprinkler spacing compliance.
  • Schedule and attend project coordination meetings to discuss sprinkler piping routing with other trades and document any resulting coordination.
  • Submit drawings, calculations, and material submittal data to appropriate authorities (building or fire) in a timely manner to ensure permits and approvals are secured prior to installation.
  • Submit to contractors, insurance companies, owners, or other interested parties as required by contract documents.
  • Follow up on submittals to ensure permits are secured prior to scheduled installation start dates, coordinating with the Permit Coordinator or directly with the local jurisdiction.
  • Accurately produce purchasing stock lists and submit them to Purchasing in a timely manner.
  • Maintain individual job status reports and communicate workload and scheduling with supervisor.
  • Communicate with and assist field personnel on design-related job issues.
  • Make corrections to working plans and complete final as-builts.
  • Maintain proper documentation using the paperless system and archive project documents in accordance with WAFS policies.
  • Coordinate with WAFS QA design review to allow for timely reviews without delaying project progress.
  • Assist sales in procurement of necessary AutoCAD drawings as time permits.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
