About The Position

Our client, A Texas-based fire protection engineering consultancy known for technical excellence, outstanding workplace culture, and market-leading flexibility. We are seeking an experienced Fire Alarm Designer who can step in and hit the ground running. In this role, you will work independently to produce accurate, code-compliant fire alarm layouts, system riser diagrams, battery/voltage drop calculations, and submittal packages for a wide variety of project types across Texas and nationwide. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, technically sharp, and capable of managing their own design workflows from initial concept through final plan approval.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of dedicated fire alarm design experience; must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD (Revit / BIM experience is a strong plus).
  • Strong time-management skills, high attention to detail, and the self-discipline to excel in a fully remote setup.

Nice To Haves

  • NICET Level II (or higher) in Fire Alarm Systems is preferred, but equivalent hands-on experience and proven design capability will be strongly considered.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed fire alarm floor plans, device layouts, riser diagrams, voltage drop calculations, battery calculations, and point-to-point wiring diagrams.
  • Assemble complete, high-quality submittal packages—including shop drawings, riser diagrams, scope narratives, and manufacturer cut sheets—for review by clients and local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
  • Utilize AutoCAD and/or Revit to coordinate containment, device placement, and pathway routing with architectural and MEP design packages.
  • Apply a strong working command of NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signal Code), NFPA 70 (NEC), International Building Code (IBC), International Fire Code (IFC), and local fire department amendments.
  • Assist project teams by answering technical RFIs, coordinating design changes, and producing accurate as-built drawings upon project completion.
