FinOps Analyst 2

WEX•Boston, MA
•$68,000 - $84,700•Remote

About The Position

WEX is expanding its FinOps practice and is looking for a FinOps Analyst to help bring financial accountability and transparency to their cloud spend. FinOps at WEX is a practice and a cultural shift in how cloud is monitored from a financial perspective, sitting at the intersection of engineering, finance, and business strategy. The role involves being the connective tissue between engineers who build in the cloud and finance partners who fund it. The analyst will turn raw billing and usage data into clear, actionable insights to help teams make better decisions about cloud deployment, sizing, and costs. A full command of cloud architecture is encouraged but not a prerequisite; the ability to interpret invoices and usage data, identify trends in spreadsheets, and communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences is most important.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in a financial analysis, business analysis, data analysis, or cloud operations role
  • Advanced proficiency with Google Sheets and/or Microsoft Excel — pivot tables, lookups, conditional logic, and building reusable templates and models.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with large, messy datasets and translate them into clear summaries and recommendations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings to both engineering teams and finance/business leaders.
  • Comfort operating with ambiguity and managing multiple concurrent ad-hoc requests alongside recurring deliverables.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Information Systems, Economics, Data Analytics, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with a cloud cost management platform — FinOpsly, CloudHealth, AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, or similar.
  • Working familiarity with public cloud billing constructs across AWS, Microsoft Azure, and/or GCP — including reservations, savings plans, committed-use discounts, and enterprise agreements.
  • Exposure to enterprise cloud commitment structures (e.g., MACC, EDP) and how consumption tracks against them.
  • Dashboarding and visualization experience with Looker, Grafana, Tableau, or Power BI.
  • Basic SQL and/or scripting (Python) for data extraction and transformation.
  • FinOps Certified Practitioner certification (FinOps Foundation), or willingness to obtain within the first six months.
  • Experience with cost allocation and showback/chargeback for SaaS and shared services.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare recurring monthly reports and slide decks summarizing cloud spend, trends, and variance against plan for engineering, finance, and executive stakeholders.
  • Respond to targeted questions from application owners, architects, and finance partners about specific workloads, accounts, services, or business units.
  • Surface and package optimization opportunities for engineering teams, including auto-generated recommendations from FinOpsly and personal analysis (rightsizing, idle resource cleanup, storage tiering, license rationalization).
  • Support the reservation of resources (Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, committed-use discounts) to cover consistent production workloads, and track realized savings and coverage/utilization rates.
  • Monitor for anomalous spend, investigate root cause, route findings to the responsible owner, and track issues through to resolution.
  • Update and maintain cloud budgets, forecasts, and cost allocation structures as the environment and organizational mapping evolve.
  • Administer the FinOpsly platform, including user access, business mappings, dimensions, views, dashboards, and alert configuration.
  • Attend and facilitate recurring meetings with account administrators and financial owners to review spend, socialize recommendations, and drive accountability.
  • Partner with engineering teams to improve tagging compliance and cost allocation accuracy, including for shared services and SaaS spend.
