About The Position

Graphic Packaging International is a leading manufacturer of paperboard and paper-based packaging for various consumer goods. They are seeking candidates to join their Food service folding carton manufacturing operation in Chicago, IL. This posting is for a Finishing Operator position with a pay range of $26.93 to $33.84/hour, plus shift differential and progressive pay increases.   • Ability to set up and trouble shoot Leary, Mactron, Alpina and Pafra glue systems.
  • Ability to set up and run all Hot Melt units and trouble shoot as needed.
  • Ability to set up and run labelaire machines per customer specs.
  • Ability to setup and run the Alpina, Speed Queen, Domino, Window machine, and Pick and Place on the Domino.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to work alternate schedules and overtime that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends.
  • Punctual
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime.
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods.
  • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
  • Routine Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Occasional Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs.) carrying (up to 50 lbs.), pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, visual acuity (Near and Far).
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English.
  • Working knowledge of finishing machine (gluer).
  • Mechanical aptitude.

Nice To Haves

  • Complex glue experience a plus
  • Feeder/Catcher experience preferred
  • Mechanical experience is helpful (automotive, small engine repair, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Adjust finishing equipment to process flat carton orders and oversee production.
  • Adjust glue machinery to fit the particular style of carton being processed.
  • Maintain machinery at optimum speed once production begins.
  • Detect causes of malfunctions and make appropriate adjustments quickly.
  • Oversee members of the crew working on gluer machinery, ensuring efficient and safe work.
  • Train feeder/catcher trainees as necessary.
  • Assume duties of the feeder or catcher during breaks (approximately 2 hours per day).
  • Perform maintenance duties on gluer machinery, including greasing, oiling, blowing off machinery, glue pot maintenance, bearing and belt replacement, and cleaning parts.
  • Maintain written and electronic (SAP) records of quality and production.
  • Perform hourly statistical measurements (carton alignment, edge caliper, opening force, glue length, etc.).
  • Make labels per customer specifications.
  • Assist and teach fellow operators to troubleshoot problems.
  • Follow all Plant rules, Processes, Hygiene, and Allergens procedures related to the production of Safe Quality Foods (SQF).
  • Report potentially unsafe conditions that may result in unsafe foods or noncompliance to SQF procedures.
  • Participate in SQF Root Cause and Corrective Actions as required.
  • Follow all procedures related to producing Safe Quality Foods (SQF).
  • Report any potentially unsafe SQF conditions or customer complaints to a person of authority.
