About The Position

Steel Dynamics is seeking a Finish Mill Shift Electrician for their Columbus SDI subsidiary. This role involves performing electrical and electronic repairs and maintenance on facility equipment, with a focus on drive control systems, PLC control systems, and other industrial control systems. The electrician will also identify, design, and implement upgrades to enhance process productivity and reliability, integrating knowledge of the steel making process with control systems. A strong understanding of electrical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, instrumentation, and AC/DC drives is essential. The company offers training in more complex skills like PLC programming and drive systems for candidates with theoretical knowledge and strong work ethics.

• Strong electrical knowledge of high and low voltage electrical systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, breakers and power distribution systems, motors, motor control equipment instrumentation, PLC’s, and AC/DC drive systems
• Understanding of mathematics (geometry, trigonometry)

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical and electronic repair and periodic maintenance on equipment
• Maintenance and repair of all electrical devices in the facility
• Repair and optimization of drive control systems, PLC control systems and other closed loop industrial control systems
• Identify, design, and implement changes/upgrades which will increase the productivity or reliability of the process
• Understand the steel making process and integrate this knowledge with the knowledge of process control systems to improve productivity, quality, and reliability
