About The Position

The Financial Technician is responsible for supporting and overseeing the financial activities of childcare centres, including revenue and expense reporting, payroll administration, accounts payable and receivable, and the validation of financial data across various records, as well as additional financial responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • College diploma in Accounting, Administration (option Accounting) or related field.
  • One to three years of relevant work experience.
  • Fluency in verbal Cree.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Customer-focused and service-oriented.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively.
  • Proven ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proven organizational skills and to coordinate multiple projects.
  • Good judgment and proven ability to problem-solve.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to adapt to a changing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Willingness to travel frequently.
  • Must agree to undergo a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in French is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Gestionnaire and Acomba software are an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support local childcare centres in preparing monthly, computer‑generated financial reports, including statements of revenues and expenses, payroll, and accounts payable and receivable.
  • Review, verify, and correct monthly financial reports in collaboration with childcare centre staff.
  • Provide advice and support to centres in financial planning and decision‑making processes.
  • Support the Coordinator of Finance in communicating budget guidelines, reporting requirements, and obligations related to various agreements.
  • Assist childcare centres in understanding and accurately completing administrative documentation in accordance with provincial regulations and internal policies.
  • Verify and correct monthly occupancy reports submitted by childcare centres.
  • Provide recommendations to improve the financial stability of childcare centres experiencing financial difficulties.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date electronic and paper filing systems and financial databases.
  • Ensure timely follow‑up on the billing of childcare fees and the management of accounts receivable for local childcare centres.
  • Support the administration of childcare centres’ payroll, Group Insurance Program, and Pension Plan.
  • Provide ongoing training and support to finance personnel and deliver onboarding training to new finance staff within childcare centres.
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator of Finance and childcare centres to develop and update financial administration tools, including administrative guides, forms, guidelines, and policies.
  • Verify the monthly computer-generated reports such as statement of revenues and expenses, payroll, accounts payable and receivable for the Childcare Centres.
  • Verify attendance and occupancy rates on a monthly and yearly basis.
  • Verify centre’s administrative documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Work collaboratively with childcare centres to ensure monthly accounting records are current, accurate, and properly adjusted.
  • Collect and analyze financial and administrative information and provide recommendations to improve compliance, efficiency, and financial performance of childcare centres.
  • Assist the regional finance team, childcare centres, and external auditors in the preparation of audits and year‑end financial statements.
  • Provide guidance and support to childcare centres in the development and monitoring of their annual budgets.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills in area(s) of responsibility.
  • Perform other duties as required.
