About The Position

The Financial Supervisor of Fire Business Services within the Aurora Fire Department performs a variety of analytical and administrative functions in support of the department’s financial and grant policies and controls; performance measurement; cost studies; organizational best practices; and the department's payroll, accounts payable, purchasing, and accounts receivable functions. Gathers, organizes, and analyzes data for ongoing and special projects. Works independently and/or with program managers to assess and recommend potential improvements in business practices. Develops information and considers available solutions or alternate methods of proceeding. Assists the department Deputy Director in budget development and monitoring. Finds, researches, and coordinates potential grant opportunities for department staff, overseeing timing and content of grant applications. Completes and maintains grant documents ensuring compliance with City, State, and Federal requirements. Completes financial reports and billing related to grants. Prepares and reviews various technical and financial reports, analysis, and cost studies. Acts as liaison between Support Services Division and Financial Services Division regarding personnel and scheduling systems and Fire payroll staff. Assists the Deputy Director-Business services in developing or updating operating procedures. Supervises and directs the activities of the Financial Services Division within the department. Assists in hiring, training, evaluating and disciplining assigned staff. Assists the Deputy Director- Business Services in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for department/division. Performs additional duties as assigned. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in business administration, finance, public administration, or related analytical field.
  • 4 years progressively responsible analytical/administrative experience in areas such as productivity improvements, work systems review, and/or financial analysis including complex spreadsheet and data base development.
  • Must include at least 3 years working in a supervisor role.
  • The principles and practices of analytical methods and techniques; process evaluation; project management; personal computers and related word processing; spreadsheet; database; and presentation software applications.
  • The principles and practices of finance and budgeting; methods and techniques of research and statistical and quantitative analysis applicable to financial analysis; budgeting; and financial planning
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, verbal, written communication, and managerial skills.
  • Advanced skill in the use of the computer including spreadsheet design, database management, word processing, and presentation software applications.
  • Strong skills in reviewing work products of others for accuracy and completeness and providing training/guidance as necessary for correction of any errors
  • Advanced skills in use of Microsoft products, especially Excel
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, citizens, and elected officials.
  • Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Establish and fulfill goals and objectives.
  • Develop, and present complex financial and operating analyses.
