About The Position

The Financial Services Supervisor position at the City of Tucson’s Business Services Department is responsible for supervising staff and supporting business compliance with the City of Tucson’s business license code and related regulations. The role oversees workflow, provides code interpretation, and authorizes tax and fee adjustments or refunds. Work is performed under the supervision of the Finance Manager. This position exercises supervision over division personnel.

Requirements

  • Education: 6 months post high school.
  • Work Experience: Four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • License/Certifications: A valid and unrestricted driver’s license with two (2) years of licensed driving is required.
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience in a regulatory compliance environment.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Two (2) years of customer service experience.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Strong written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises employees by providing guidance and direction.
  • Participates in recruitment.
  • Provides or coordinates staff trainings.
  • Manages time-off, scheduling, and personnel-related actions.
  • Provides licensing support by answering staff and agency inquiries, troubleshooting system issues with the software vendor, and updating procedures and correspondence.
  • Responds to and delegates taxpayer inquiries; provides phone and in-person assistance, resolves online portal issues, processes cancellations, and handles escalated customer situations.
  • Manages financial actions by reviewing and approving or denying penalty waivers and refund requests, correcting, license charges, reallocating payments processing payment batches, and coordinating annual and quarterly billing cycles.
  • Oversees administrative tasks including assigning special event license forms, submitting supply orders, and maintaining inventory of printed and specialty licensing materials.
  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
