About The Position

Merrill Wealth Management is seeking individuals for its Advisor Development Program, specifically for the Financial Solutions Advisor Trainee role within the centralized segment at the La Jolla Merrill Office. This program is designed to guide individuals through obtaining necessary Securities Industry licenses (SIE, Series 7, Series 66) and developing foundational skills to become a successful financial advisor. Trainees will learn to acquire, build, and manage client relationships, understand complex financial situations, and provide guidance and solutions to help clients achieve their financial goals. The role is phone-based, offering holistic financial advice and identifying appropriate Merrill and Bank of America products and services. The program provides structured training, one-on-one coaching, and a defined path for career progression within Merrill Wealth Management, with support from The Academy. The goal is to equip individuals to become Merrill Financial Advisors, working with affluent and high net worth clients, and potentially progressing to a Merrill Financial Solutions Advisor (MFSA) role.

Requirements

  • Must obtain SIE within 60 days of hire.
  • Must obtain Series 7 and Series 66 within 120 days of hire.
  • Displays confidence working in a sales role.
  • Builds strong client relationships through effective communication and collaboration.
  • Displays a proactive mindset and effective time management.
  • Demonstrates a results-driven mindset and prioritizes client interests.
  • Identifies appropriate client solutions through application of learnings and new information.
  • Applies relevant regulatory due diligence in daily activities and creating long-term client strategies.
  • Subject to SAFE Act registration requirements, including background check and registration process.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain SAFE Act registration.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or a minimum of one year of financial services industry or sales experience.

  • Executes multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • 63 & 65 accepted, in lieu of 66.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain Securities Industry Essentials (SIE), Series 7, and Series 66 licenses.
  • Acquire, build, and manage client relationships.
  • Understand a client’s complex financial picture and guide them with advice and solutions.

  • Identify broader product and service solutions that meet clients' investment, savings, and liability management needs.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of investments and financial markets and apply key principles.
  • Align Merrill and Bank of America products and services where appropriate.
  • Work with affluent and high net worth clients.
  • Identify client needs, develop relationships, review investment goals, and prepare investment recommendations.
  • Provide end-to-end comprehensive advice and deliver client reviews/presentations.
  • Recommend strategies to help clients achieve their financial goals and life priorities.
  • Collaborate with core banking and investment partners.
  • Connect clients to all solutions provided through Bank of America and Merrill.
  • Manage a portfolio of clients by providing exceptional client care with industry-leading products, services, and education.
  • Leverage a strong referral base from across the business.
