EY's State and Local Tax (SALT) team is a growing practice within the organization, and you'll see that growth reflected in your career. As a Tax Manager, you'll play an important role within a rapidly expanding team that has experienced significant recent growth and aims to double in size over the next few years. Advise on indirect tax regulatory changes; design strategies, operating models, processes, and compliance frameworks that raise efficiency and meet requirements. Identify opportunities for tax optimization, credits and refund recovery, exposure reduction; manage strategies, compliance, remediation, controversies, and corrective filings. Support process review and technology transformation. Translate regulatory changes into practical compliance and reporting solutions. Implement operating models and frameworks across the indirect tax lifecycle. Lead optimization, recovery, and exposure‑reduction initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (4‑year degree) with an emphasis in accounting, finance, or economics
  • Typically 4–6 years of relevant experience
  • Strong tax technical skills including tax research and writing skills, flow through entity taxation, income and franchise taxes, transfer taxes, and compliance skills as it relates to multi-state jurisdictions
  • Project management experience in delivering high-quality work products in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • You'll likely spend most of your time on a diverse array of projects, responsibilities, and tasks, with a focus on tax controversy and advisory matters. To support these efforts, we'll look to you to apply your extensive knowledge of state and local tax concepts and law. Guide teams, drive improvement, and recommend solutions by interpreting internal/external issues. Travel required regularly for external clients.
