About The Position

As a senior member of the branch sales/leadership team, the Financial Services Associate will understand the financial needs of Members and provide appropriate advice and recommendations. This includes offering complex credit and investment advice, proactively identifying opportunities for Meridian products and services, and meeting/exceeding individual and team-based business goals. The role involves managing Member portfolios to build relationships and positioning Meridian’s products and services to add value to Members' financial well-being. The ideal candidate has a growth mindset, is adaptive, resilient, resourceful, and creative, seeking and receptive to feedback. They are an engaged and collaborative team member who communicates respectfully, values diversity, and takes initiative and accountability. This role is expected to bring new ideas forward, stay on top of market trends, and focus on Member Experience, ensuring Meridian exceeds Member expectations. The Financial Services Advisor will align financial strategies with internal business partners (Wealth, Small Business, Mobile Mortgage Specialists) and contribute to team-based business results through revenue-generating and sales-based activities, fostering Member relationships and referring business to other channels.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education at least 3 years of equivalent work experience in a financial services sales environment with a proven track record in sales.
  • At minimum MFDA licensing is required.
  • Strong desire for career growth within the financial services industry.
  • Strong business acumen and financial industry knowledge.
  • Excellent organizational and Member service skills.
  • Strong knowledge of computer systems.
  • Ability to make decisions, act decisively and provide friendly and personable service.
  • Strong negotiation, interpersonal, written and oral communications skills. Must be able to mitigate and resolve Member Concerns.
  • Effective organizational time management, and problem-solving skills; ability to grasp concepts and processes quickly; demonstrated ability to partner and influence.
  • Embrace virtual technology platforms for use in both Member and Meridian partner meetings.
  • Ability to collaborate with leadership to develop plans and recommendations that support the achievement of Meridian’s strategic objectives.
  • Proven track record of bringing new ideas forward, while staying on top of trends in the marketplace.
  • Member Experience focused, with the enthusiasm and tenacity to motivate self to meet and exceed goals and provide the right solutions.
  • Confidence and willingness to learn and integrate AI and emerging technologies into new ways of working.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with low/no code tools like the Microsoft Power Platform and generative AI productivity tools like Microsoft Copilot is considered an asset.
  • Hold or willingness to obtain Mutual fund accreditation and maintain thorough knowledge of economic and market conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Foster and deepen Member relationships and refer business to other channels.
  • Develop goals with Manager that are clearly defined, measurable and achievable, and align them to business unit and strategic priorities for Meridian.
  • Actively participate and support the team in the planning process, assisting with implementation and providing feedback.
  • Advocate for the branch, advance innovative thinking amongst team, and promote an entrepreneurial growth mindset.
  • Act as a trusted partner to build, develop and maintain internal relationships within the Member Experience teams and cross-functional departments.
  • Participate and lead branch activities in support of expanding the Member relationship and growing share of wallet including growing our Digital Ambassador Program.
  • Provide investment advice by identifying and promoting solutions that fit and meet our Member needs.
  • Within approval limits approve or provide recommendations on credit products based on thorough, accurate and appropriate credit interviewing and underwriting skills.
  • Open new Member accounts using account opening strategies.
  • Build external centres of influence to optimize sales and service results.
  • Use Meridian tools to proactively identify and promote opportunities with all Members to deepen relationships and provide seamless service experiences.
  • Embrace virtual technology platforms and leverage them to host meetings and engage in impactful communication with Members.
  • Through sales excellence earn the right to ask for business and drive new referrals to appropriate partners in Retail Wealth, Small Business and Commercial.
  • Resolve problems at first point of contact where possible and refer more complex Member concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Balance and process daily work in accordance to standard compliance, audit, policies and procedures.
  • Works with the Branch leadership team, to champion and implement corporate strategies and programs for the branch.
  • Maintain discretion and confidentiality to respect Members privacy.
  • Identify and contributes to the continuous enhancement of the Member Experience while leveraging Voice of Employee.
  • Working with the Branch leadership, execute Retail strategies to ensure continued momentum across Meridian including Omni Channel integration.
  • Works with the Branch leadership, to champion and implement corporate strategies and programs for the branch.
  • Participating in the development and implementation of branch business plans.
  • Participate and execute with the team our Community engagement plan.
  • Promote Meridian Credit Union in your community by participating in and being involved in community activities or events while demonstrating the Company Values.
  • Support local community organizations and activities through Business Development and Good Neighbour Program. Planning, preparation and delivery of Meridian hosted Community events.
